On September 19, 1944, the first liberators entered Geldrop. After more than four difficult years of occupation, the first Dutch tricolor cautiously flew again. Between Geldrop and Mierlo lies the British War Cemetery, a military burial ground where over 600 young Allied soldiers are laid to rest, with a stream of free passersby as a living testament to this liberation. The commitment to peace and freedom remains of great importance throughout these 80 years and is still felt as such.

In commemoration of the liberation, 80 years ago in September 2024, the art committee of Landgoed Kasteel Geldrop is organizing a unique thematic exhibition titled "THE EIGHTY YEARS OF PEACE."
From many years of exhibitions at Kasteel Geldrop, the Art Committee has selected 29 artists to shape this special exhibition. Each artist has contributed a work of art that resonates with the theme. This results in a broad approach, a cacophony of styles and materials that nonetheless unifies through the shared theme: visions of peace and freedom.
In September 2024, we celebrate the liberation that took place 80 years ago. The title of this exhibition ties into this anniversary but is also a subtle reference to the Eighty Years' War, which did not last eighty years. Unfortunately, our world has not experienced a period of peace lasting eighty years either. That is precisely why Peace and Freedom are of great importance, especially in these times!

The exhibition is free to attend and runs from Sunday, September 1, to Sunday, October 27. The opening hours are Thursday, Friday, and Sunday between 14:00 and 17:00. The exhibition halls of Geldrop Castle are located on the first floor and are wheelchair accessible.
