Tweka hiking trail
To this day, the name TWEKA remains a familiar term, as this large textile company was long established in Geldrop. The company operated from 1916 to 1981, after which it moved to Nuenen. It began in Eindhoven, where textile manufacturer J. de Heer had gained experience in producing knitwear. He moved to Geldrop and started a knitwear factory in an empty building on Mierloseweg, which had previously served as a reeling mill for J. Raymakers from Helmond. The name TWEKA was introduced in 1931 and became especially well-known for a wide range of swimwear and underwear. From the beginning, the company paid much attention to the social, societal, and cultural well-being of its staff. A beautiful example of this is the establishment of its own company band in 1927 and a cycling club in 1932. Medical care for the staff was also well arranged.
